L. tabes = wasting away, L. dorsal = posterior
Demyelination of posterior column and root in tertiary syphilis (neurosyphilis) with nerve root pain, meningitis, ataxia. If blindness, paralysis and death are consequences. Very rare in developed countries de to early diagnosis and therapy.
